SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to ophthalmology. In patients with primary open-angle glaucoma of the initial stage, a tonography is performed to determine the hydrodynamic parameters of the eye, and a value of the tolerant intraocular pressure is determined from the table taking into account the patient's age and the level of diastolic arterial pressure in the humeral artery. Intolerance index is then calculated as the difference between actual and tolerable intraocular pressure values. Additionally, initial values of tonometric intraocular pressure from 26 to 32 mm Hg before hypotension therapy are taken into account. Drug-induced treatment is prescribed in the form of instillations of 0.005 % Latanoprost solution in 1 drop in the evening to the affected eye. Against the backdrop of drug-induced treatment, the patient is re-examined and the intolerance index is calculated against the background of the drug-induced treatment and if the value is less than or equal to zero, the intraocular pressure value is not higher than the tolerance value, presence of anterior eye chamber pigmentation and initial values of coefficient of ease of aqueous humor outflow to 0.15 mm3/min per 1 mm Hg, and Becker coefficient above 100 is recommended selective laser trabeculoplasty.

EFFECT: method enables efficient and timely selection of patients for selective laser trabeculoplasty, which enables to obtain a sufficiently pronounced hypotensive effect after it has been performed, which makes it possible to abolish drug-induced treatment for reducing intraocular pressure in such patients.
