METHOD OF CHOOSING TREATMENT METHOD FOR OPEN-ANGLE GLAUCOMA Russian patent published in 2023 - IPC A61B5/107 A61B5/103 A61F9/07 A61F9/08

Abstract RU 2807496 C1

FIELD: medicine; ophthalmology.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to select a method of treating open-angle glaucoma. The stage of glaucoma, the degree of trabecular pigmentation, and the coefficient of ease of outflow of intraocular fluid are determined. Then the value of tonometric intraocular pressure is determined against the background of drug treatment of open-angle glaucoma. Patients with tonometric intraocular pressure below 24 mm Hg and the value of the coefficient of ease of outflow of intraocular fluid above 0.08, undergo optical coherence tomography of the anterior segment of the eye, according to which the size of the major and minor axes of the Schlemm’s canal slice is determined. Then the cross-sectional area of the Schlemm canal is calculated using the formula S=π×A×b, where S is the cross-sectional area of the Schlemm canal,π is a mathematical constant equal to the ratio of the circumference to its diameter, a is the length of the major axis of the Schlemm canal cut, b is the length of the minor axis of the Schlemm canal cut. If the cut area of a particular patient's Schlemm's canal is less than 175.3 μm2, a surgical method for treating glaucoma is planned, and if the cut area of the patient's Schlemm's canal is more than 175.3 μm2, selective laser trabeculoplasty is prescribed.

EFFECT: method ensures the choice of a treatment method for open-angle glaucoma by comparing the value of the cut area of the patient's Schlemm's canal with the minimum value of the cut area of the Schlemm's canal in patients with open-angle glaucoma.
