SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer engineering. In method when performing operation of recording and editing electronic documents files at time t1, t2, …, tk in memory of data processing system rows and columns are formed, containing metadata records, over which cryptographic transformation operations are performed on subsets of switches as a result of which signature values of corresponding columns and rows are formed, above which concatenation operations with subsequent records are performed, after which these operations are performed similarly for all rows and columns. All records and corresponding signatures are stored in memory of data processing system in form of data table.

EFFECT: high level of security of metadata of electronic document files with possibility of monitoring their integrity, detection and localization of unauthorized modified records caused by deliberate actions of authorized users (insiders).
