FIELD: fodders.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to fodder industry. Fodder composition for domestic animals, comprising: Camellia extract obtained from tea plant tissue, which is oxidised by more than about 40 %, and Camellia extract includes black tea; and a fibrous component, where the fibrous component contains beet pulp and citrus pulp, wherein the beet pulp is present in amount of 0.5 % to 1.5 % w/v, and where citrus pulp and beet pulp are present in ratio of 1.5:1 to 2:1. Camellia extract and the fibrous component are present in an amount effective to provide, approximately 24 hours after consumption, the concentration of hydrogen sulphide in the faeces of less than 450 mg/l, and the pH in the colon lumen of less than 5.0. Method of treating a gastrointestinal disease, a condition or disorder in the gastrointestinal tract in a companion animal or alleviating their symptoms, comprising administering an effective amount of the composition to a companion animal in need thereof. Method for maintaining homeostasis of an intestinal ecosystem of a companion animal, comprising administering an effective amount of a pet food composition to a companion animal in need thereof, where the pet food composition comprises: Camellia extract obtained from tea fabric, which is oxidised by more than 40 %; and fibre component, where Camellia extract and fibrous component are present in an amount effective to provide approximately 24 hours after ingestion of faecal hydrogen sulphide concentration of less than 450 mg/l and pH of colon lumen less than 5.0.
EFFECT: invention enables to create a feed composition which is optimal for health, which will stimulate sufficient fermentation with the help of commensal intestinal bacteria, but will not facilitate production of clinically significant amounts of gas; and will also enhance fermentation to lactate by forming gas and decomposing proteins.
