FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical engineering of fibrous materials and relates to synthetic fiber containing aerogel and polymer material, method of making and articles containing same. Synthetic fiber comprises: 0.1 to 2.7 wt % aerogel particles having an average diameter in range of 0.3 to 20 mcm; and from 85 to 99.9 wt % of polymer material, wherein synthetic fiber is characterized by linear density (denier) in range of 0.1 to 9.0 denier.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain improved fiber having advantageous thermophysical properties for use in insulation, which demonstrates improved thermophysical properties with no undesirable increase in insulation weight.
