SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a system and method of tracking articles. Method comprises obtaining article information indicating article unit properties, and configuring an electronic tag for a product unit for identifying a product item using the external identifiable information being read by the label, determining an adapted technical characteristic of the implementation of the label, including the properties of the mark, based on configuration of reader in locations in supply chain or values or environmental conditions prevailing in these locations, wherein the characteristic is adapted based on the obtained product information to optimize the operation of the mark relative to the article unit using the optimization criteria, mark is created or attached to unit of item in accordance with adapted technical characteristic and storing, in electronic data management system, indication of digital notifications on tag reading events in multiple actions of associated supply chain or values, indicating identification information of label.

EFFECT: technical result consists in improvement of reliability of a mark placed on an article.
