FIELD: radio engineering; measurement.

SUBSTANCE: method of measuring range relates to radio equipment for measuring distance. Novelty in the method of measuring range is using simultaneously two channels of transmitting information. Reference low-frequency signal is transmitted from one end of the measuring path to the other by modulation, transmission and demodulation of the radio-frequency signal. Radio frequency modulated signal is emitted and received above the water surface. By means of this channel on both ends of measurement route in-phase continuous low-frequency oscillations are formed. Basic information channel is an acoustic communication channel organized by acoustic transducers located under the water surface. Actually, the phase shift of acoustic waves is an information parameter for determining the distance. Successive variation of frequency of continuous oscillations of low frequency and accompanying measurement of phase difference of signals in modulated radio-frequency and acoustic channels are used for uniquely determine range in local navigation system.

EFFECT: method can be used, for example, to measure distances in local navigation systems when controlling the movement of surface objects when controlling their movement in the coastal zone, entering and passing along the cove, and organizing automatic docking.
