FIELD: mining.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mining, mainly to coal industry, and can be used to determine volumes of methane release into previously worked out areas. Proposed method comprises covered workings at previously worked-out section, its geometrical parameters, gas state indices of coal massifs of roof and soil of the formation, their unloading angles from rock pressure and measurement of residual methane content of approximated coal beds. At that, by parameters of bedding and capacity, methane content, length of lava development, sections in direction of lava movement are separated in lengthwise sections of lava, unloading dynamics and natural degassing of adjacent coal bed are installed in them, at that, by size and residual methane content of sections in a closer formation, volumes of methane released from them are determined in previously used space.

EFFECT: higher safety of mining operations in methane-rich mines.
