SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for determining levels of 3-methylhistidine before and after feeding a companion animal, to methods for feeding described fodder product for domestic animals and/or dietary ration to provide animal-companion with favorable effect of reducing and/or preventing sarcopenia. Disclosed is a method for feeding cats, comprising the steps of: (a) feeding to the cat a fodder product having protein and fat in ratio of 1:0.27 to 1:0.63 gramme:gramme in conversion to fodder, and (b) measuring level of 3-methylhistidine in a cat blood sample before and after feeding the feed, wherein reducing levels of 3-methylhistidine after feeding indicates a decrease and/or prevention of sarcopenia in the cat. Disclosed is a dietary cat fed diet using said method, comprising a fodder product of a first period for domestic animals and a fodder product of a second period for domestic animals, wherein the fodder product of the first period for domestic animals contains protein and fat in ratio from 1:0.27 to 1:0.63 gramme:gramme in terms of fodder or dry substance, and the fodder product have a first caloric density, wherein the fodder product of the second period for domestic animals contains protein and fat in ratio from 1:0.27 to 1:0.63 gramme:gramme in terms of fodder or dry substance, and the fodder product has a second high-calorie density for feeding to a cat for use in reducing and/or preventing sarcopenia, wherein the fodder product of the first period for domestic animals is intended for feeding to a cat aged from 1 year to about 8 years, wherein the fodder product of the second period for domestic animals is intended for feeding to a cat aged over 8 years, wherein the second caloric density is less than the first caloric density. Also disclosed are a kit for feeding cats, including said dietary ration, containing a fodder product of a first period for domestic animals and a fodder product of a second period for domestic animals, and packaging with arrangement of separately fodder product of first period for domestic animals and fodder product of second period for domestic animals, and kit for feeding cats by said method, including a fodder product for feeding to a cat, which contains protein and fat in ratio from 1:0.27 to 1:0.63 gramme:gramme in terms of fodder, and instructions for feeding a cat.
EFFECT: invention is aimed at reducing destruction of skeletal muscles and as a result of supporting mass of skeletal muscles corresponding to metabolic function and optimal quality of life of companion animals—cats.
