FIELD: pharmaceuticals.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a haemostatic composition in the form of fibers and/or aggregates, a method for preparing such a composition, a method for achieving haemostasis, a kit, method for treating a bleeding wound and using a haemostatic composition as a bactericidal agent, for stopping bleeding, for sealing, preventing adhesion and/or minimizing or preventing anastomotic leakage. Haemostatic composition in form of fibers and/or aggregates contains cellulose-based long and fine fibers, wherein long and fine fibers are in ratio in range of 5–25 wt % and 95–75 wt % accordingly, total weight of composition. Size distribution for long fibers is: D90 from more than 177 mcm to less than 350 mcm and D50 from more than 95 mcm to less than 167 mcm, size distribution for fine fibers is as follows: D90 is less than 177 mcm and D50 is less than 95 mcm. Method for preparing the haemostatic composition comprises the steps of: a) milling cellulose-based material to form long fibers and fine fibers and mixing long and fine fibers in ratio of 5–25 wt % and 95–75 wt % respectively, thereby obtaining a haemostatic fibers composition; b) optionally subjecting a haemostatic fibers composition obtained at step a), additional steps for preparing a haemostatic composition in the form of aggregates, the steps comprising: i) pressing the haemostatic fibers composition to produce a compressed haemostatic fibers composition; and optionally ii) milling the molded composition. Method for achieving haemostasis involves contact of the haemostatic composition in the form of fibers and/or aggregates with blood to form a gel. Kit comprises a container including a haemostatic composition in the form of fibers and/or aggregates, and optionally an applicator, a carrier and/or an instruction for use. Method for treatment of bleeding wound, bacterial infection in wound area, for leak sealing on section, preventing adhesion on the site and/or minimizing or preventing anastomotic leakage in a subject in need thereof, involves applying an effective amount of the haemostatic composition in the form of fibers and/or aggregates on and/or a wound and/or a portion in a subject.
EFFECT: obtaining a haemostatic composition having high haemostatic efficacy.
