FIELD: waste processing and disposal.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to recycling wastes to obtain activated carbon. Method of producing activated carbon involves convective drying of ground waste of worn-out tires and rubber articles by furnace gases at temperature of 260–300 °C, conductive pyrolysis of ground with separation of pyrolysis gases into flammable gases and liquid medium, activation of coal with superheated water vapor with temperature of 900–950 °C with separation of combustible activation gases and coal cooling in two stages. Pyrolysis is carried out at temperature 500–600 °C due to combustion in a pyrolysis chamber jacket of separated combustible gases with pyrolysis and activation stages. Coal cooling at the first stage is carried out to temperature of 90–100 °C by irrigated 15÷20 % of total volume of coal with water separated from pyrolysis gases and activation gases, and the remaining part of coal volume is cooled by convection with formed water vapor, separated from pyrolysis liquid and activation gases. Coal cooling at the second cooling stage with its simultaneous grinding is carried out in a chamber equipped with walls on flexible connection by reducing pressure to 3–6 kPa with subsequent increase to atmospheric pressure from 3 to 5 times. For activation of coal, steam is used from the first stage of coal cooling, heated by furnace gases from pyrolysis zone. Outgoing flue gases after purification are ejected into atmosphere.

EFFECT: invention enables to obtain activated carbon from wastes which include worn-out tires and rubber articles while improving environmental friendliness of the method.
