FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of producing a dispersible nonwoven substrate, comprising steps of: a) emulsion polymerisation of at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer to form an emulsion polymer; and b) neutralizing said emulsion polymer with a neutralizing agent selected from a group consisting of an amine with pKb from 4 to 7, an alkali metal hydroxide and a combination of said substances to form an aqueous binder for the nonwoven material; c) bringing the nonwoven substrate into contact with said aqueous binder for nonwoven material to form a treated non-woven substrate; d) heating said treated nonwoven substrate to temperature of 120 °C to 220 °C to form heated treated non-woven substrate; and e) immersing said heated treated non-woven substrate in an aqueous medium with a final pH of less than 5.5 to obtain a dispersible non-woven substrate, wherein said aqueous medium contains a buffer agent containing a mixture of citric acid and sodium citrate.
EFFECT: disclosed is a dispersible nonwoven substrate and a method for production thereof.
