SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of producing an unsaturated nitrile when using a fluidised bed reactor having an inner space containing a catalyst, capable of fluidisation inside it; feed opening configured to feed initial gaseous material containing hydrocarbon into inner space; and outlet opening configured to discharge gaseous reaction product from inner space, method includes reaction stage of hydrocarbon reaction of catalytic ammoxidation reaction in vapor phase in presence of catalyst in inner space, to obtain corresponding unsaturated nitrile, where when in inner space, space, where available amount of catalyst per unit volume is 150 kg/m3 or more, is defined as a thick zone and a space where the available amount of catalyst per unit volume is less than 150 kg/m3, determined as a loose zone in the reaction stage, gas stay time in a non-dense zone ranges from 5 to 50 s, and where catalyst has formula (1), where each of a, b, c, d, e and n is atomic fraction of each atom with respect to Mo atom and is within interval 0.01≤a≤1, 0.01≤b≤1, 0.01≤c≤1, 0≤d<1 and 0≤e<1, respectively, and n is a value which satisfies a valence balance, where X is one or more elements selected from a group consisting of Sb and Te, where T is one or more elements selected from a group consisting of Hf, W and Re, where Z is one or more elements selected from a group consisting of La, Ce, Pr and Yb. EFFECT: providing a method of producing an unsaturated nitrile, in which the unsaturated nitrile can be obtained at high output by controlling decomposition of the unsaturated nitrile obtained in the reactor with a fluidised bed.
