SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing unsaturated nitrile via catalytic ammoxidation of propane in vapour phase. The method includes a step of measuring at least one value of a physical property selected from a group consisting of normalised absorption in the UV range and the degree of recovery of a catalyst in the reactor. Further, the method includes a step of maintaining or changing reaction conditions based on the measured value of the physical property. The catalyst is a composite oxide catalyst containing Mo, V, Nb and Sb, and reaction conditions are at least one of conditions such as the amount of catalyst, the composition of the catalyst, temperature of the catalyst bed in the reactor and the composition of initial gaseous materials fed into the reactor.
EFFECT: disclosed method enables to maintain output of unsaturated nitrile during catalytic ammoxidation of propane.
