SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing an unsaturated nitrile, comprising a reaction step of subjecting a hydrocarbon to catalytic ammoxidation reaction in a vapor phase in the presence of a catalyst in the interior, in order to obtain the corresponding unsaturated nitrile, where when the inner space is divided into two spaces in the form of an upper space, occupying space from cyclone inlet top end to inner space upper end, and bottom space, occupying space below cyclone inlet top end and extending to distribution plate, ratio of available amount of catalyst in upper space per unit volume to available amount of catalyst in lower space per unit volume ranges from 0.05 to 0.45 at reaction stage, wherein catalyst has composition represented by formula below (1): MoVaNbbXcTdZeOn (1), where each of the indices a, b, c, d, e and n is atomic fraction of each atom with respect to the Mo atom, and they are within intervals 0.01≤a≤1; 0.01≤b≤1; 0.01≤c≤1; 0≤d<1 and 0≤e<1; and n is a value which satisfies a valence balance, wherein X is Sb, T is W, and Z is Ce.

EFFECT: technical result is improved output of unsaturated nitrile.
