FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of separating spent nitride nuclear fuel from shell of fuel element fragments and can be used in technology of processing spent nitride nuclear fuel as part of closed nuclear fuel cycle technology. Fragments of fuel elements together with shell are heated to temperature of not less than 500 °C and maintained in gas atmosphere, and holding of heated fragments of fuel elements is carried out in atmosphere of nitrogen.
EFFECT: technical result is the elimination of the presence of chemically aggressive gas in the process of separating nitride nuclear fuel from the shell of fuel element fragments, simplification of method design, reduction of secondary components at further stages of processing nitride nuclear fuel, as well as transfer of dense sintered samples of nitride fuel to microdispersed powder, which makes it possible to accelerate further operations of fuel processing.
