FIELD: nuclear energy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear power engineering, particularly, to processing spent nitride nuclear fuel and can be used mainly in closed nuclear fuel cycle (CNFC). Method involves conversion of nitride fuel components into chlorides at temperature of not higher than 750 °C by chemical dissolving in molten chloride LiCl. Nitride fissile materials are separated from fission products including ZrN nitride at ratio of moles of PbCl2 to sum of moles of nitride fuel components 1.2–3. After conversion, residual chlorinating reagent is removed by reduction with lithium metal or actinide.
EFFECT: invention enables to completely separate nitride fissile materials from fission products at the primary stage of their conversion into chlorides, eliminate additional reprocessing of nitride nuclear fuel and remove residual chlorating reagent from molten LiCl.
