FIELD: wireless communication.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to adjustment of downlink power in narrowband wireless communication. Device, such as a base station or a user equipment (UE), can identify energy per resource element (EPRE) of a narrow-band reference signal (NB-RS) for NB-RS to be transmitted in wireless transmission. Device can identify an EPRE ratio of a narrow-band physical downlink shared channel (N-PDSCH) to NB-RS EPRE for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols, which do not contain a cell-specific reference signal (CRS), or NB-RS. In deployments, where NB transmissions are transmitted in a security band, adjacent to broadband system bandwidth, device can identify a second relation for N-PDSCH EPRE to CRS EPRE in OFDM symbols containing CRS. In deployments, where NB transmissions are transmitted in-band with broadband system bandwidth, device can identify a third relation of NB-RS EPRE to CRS EPRE and a fourth ratio of N-PDSCH EPRE to NB-RS EPRE in OFDM symbols containing NB-RS transmissions.

EFFECT: improved system operation due to efficient control of power for NB transmissions and signaling of various power control parameters to one or several NB devices.
