SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method and apparatus for monitoring tires, for example, on a tire production line, in particular, to a method and apparatus for checking for the presence of defects on or near the tire surface, more particularly on or near the inner and/or outer surface of the tire sidewalls. Method comprises monitoring the presence of a tire to be monitored, connecting the first light source and the second light source, made with possibility of their inclusion independently with each other, with the chamber, application of the first force to the first section of the tire surface to create the first deformed surface area, illuminating a first deformed portion of the tire surface by first light emitted by the first light source, holding the second light source off during deformation, obtaining a first image of a first deformed portion of a surface illuminated by first light radiation by a camera, removing a first force from a first portion of the surface of the tire, selecting a second portion of the surface, differing at least partially from first surface of tire, illumination of second undeformed section of tire surface by means of second light emitted by second light source, obtaining second image of second non-deformed surface area, illuminated by second light radiation, by means of the camera and processing of the first image and the second image for detection of possible defects on the first surface area and on the second section of the tire surface. Invention also relates to a tire monitoring apparatus.

EFFECT: technical result is possibility of obtaining surface images of tire for detecting defects of more than one type on tire surface and application on line for production of tires in production plant in single time scale.
