FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to application of protective-decorative coatings, namely to blackening of metal articles from copper, brass and bronze. Composition for cold blacking of metal articles from copper, brass and bronze contains, wt. %: selenium dioxide or selenious acid 0.1–5.0, copper sulphate II 0.1–5.0, zinc sulphate 0.1–5.0, mineral acid 0.1–5.0, distilled water is balance. Mineral acid used is hydrochloric acid, orthophosphoric acid, nitric acid or a mixture thereof.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain a stable uniform coating on the surface of articles made of copper, brass and bronze, having a colour from dark brown to black, possibly with metallic lustre.
