FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing a compositionally homogeneous copolymer of acrylonitrile of specified composition with narrow molecular weight distribution and controlled distribution of links in the copolymer chain. Method includes: a) combining the acrylonitrile (AN) monomer with a dimethyl sulphoxide solvent with at least one comonomer and a polymerization regulator (OPC-agent), which is a thiocarbonylthio compound of the general structure R-S-C(=S)-S-R', to form a solution; b) adding an initiator to the solution; c) heating solution to temperature of 50 °C to 60 °C. Adjustable feed of monomers into copolymerization is carried out at a rate in range from 0.2 to 0.7 ml/h per 100 g of polymerization system. Method is carried out in atmosphere of inert gas or in vacuum at low pressure. Acrylonitrile copolymer is characterized by number-average molecular weight in range of 50–100 kg/mol and molecular-weight distribution (Mw/Mn) not exceeding 1.5.

EFFECT: obtaining double and triple copolymers with number-average molecular weight in range of 50–100 kg/mol, narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn up to 1_5), content of comonomers from 10 to 80 mol% and controlled distribution of links in chain of copolymer.
