FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to audio signal processing by adjusting the volume range of an audio signal to a desired target loudness range. Device (1) for processing of input audio signal (100) comprises evaluation unit (10) for estimation of loudness of input audio signal (100) for determination of volume range (LRAin) and actual volume value. Calculator (11) determines the transfer function of the compressor based on the determined volume range (LRAin), based on the target loudness range (LRAdes) and based on the determined actual loudness value. Calculator (11) also determines at least one gain factor for controlling the volume range based on a certain transfer function of the compressor. Adjustment unit (12) provides an output audio signal (101) based on the input audio signal (100) and based on at least one determined gain for controlling the volume range. Calculator (11) is configured to determine compressor transfer function so as to minimize difference between average loudness (μout) of output audio signal (101) and average loudness (μin) of input audio signal (100). Corresponding method is also provided.
EFFECT: technical result consists in providing the required target range of loudness with minimum deterioration of audio signal quality in a wide range of scenarios.
