FIELD: automated banking systems.

SUBSTANCE: apparatus (100) for processing banknotes comprises housing (102); module (104) for receiving banknotes; banknotes output module (108); transport device (112) for transfer of banknote (105) from input position (106) to output position (110); banknotes verification module (114), located inside housing (102), made with possibility of recognition of banknote (105) characteristics when banknote (105) is found in input (106), output (110) or in intermediate position between them. Recognized characteristic is used to determine whether to accept bank note (105). Additionally, it includes counterfeit detecting module (116) containing ultraviolet (UV) radiation source (118) and located in housing (102) such that UV radiation source (118) emits UV radiation outside housing (102) for manual banknote authentication (105), and control module (120), configured to transmit a signal for triggering a UV radiation source (118) in response to determining that banknote (105) is not received.

EFFECT: technical result is an increase in the speed of processing banknotes by allowing the user to manually verify the authenticity of the banknote, having received from the apparatus an indication of the need for such verification.
