FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 4-methoxybiphenyl with a Suzuki reaction involving reacting 4-bromoanisole and phenylboronic acid in a solvent in the presence of a base and an Au-Pd/MN100 catalyst, which is synthesized by successive impregnation of pre-ground super-cross-linked polystyrene of the MN100 grade, first as a gold precursor, in form of a solution of HAuCl4 in tetrahydrofuran, then reduction thereof in a stream of hydrogen at 300°C for 180 minutes, and then a process of impregnation with a palladium precursor, in form of a solution of PdCl2(CH3CN)2 in tetrahydrofuran at temperature of 20-40°C, by reduction with 0.1 M sodium borohydride solution in the cold at temperature from 0 to 5°C to form bimetallic nanoparticles with a core-shell structure, in which the nucleus is gold, and as a palladium shell. Content of gold in catalyst is 2.0 wt%, content of palladium in catalyst ranges from 0.4 to 1.2 wt% using pre-ground MN100, amount of catalyst ranges from 0.16 to 0.545 mol% with respect to 4-bromoanisole, Suzuki reaction solvent used is a mixture of ethanol / water in volume ratio of 5:1, and as base - NaOH in amount of 1.5 mmol at temperature of 60°C for 180 minutes in a gas atmosphere of nitrogen.
