FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to analytical chemistry, specifically to chromatographic analysis methods for determining trace elements of highly toxic volatile compounds in gaseous media. Method for chromatographic determination of volatile compounds in gaseous media involves sorption of substances from a gaseous medium by a loose sorbent, their desorption with a stream of an organic solvent or carrier gas while heating and subsequent determination in a desorbing medium, wherein during transition from sorption to desorption configuration of sorption layer is changed, which, in case of active sorption, is carried out by sorbent spill, which increases ratio of height of its layer to its cross-section area from 4 to 100, and in case of passive sorption, configuration is changed by sorbent perforation from substrate surface or from cartridge to desorption vessel with increase of layer height to its cross-section area from 1,000 to 10,000 times.
EFFECT: shorter duration of sorption concentration stage.
