FIELD: optics.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a band from optical fibre and to a method for production thereof. Disclosed optical fibre band comprises a plurality of adjacent fibre-optic units extending in a longitudinal direction and arranged in parallel to form a fibre-optic assembly having a certain width. Each of the fibre-optic units comprises either a single optical fibre or a group of at most three optical fibres, preferably two optical fibres enclosed in a matrix material; and a plurality of successive elongated straight strips of binder material arranged along the length of said assembly. Each of said plurality of strips is configured to form an elongated communication between two adjacent fibre-optic units from a plurality of fibre-optic units. First strip forming the first link connects the first pair of adjacent fibre-optic units, while the next link created by the next link, connects an additional pair of adjacent fibre-optic units, wherein at least one fibre-optic unit of said additional pair is different from fibre-optic units of the first pair. In each longitudinal position of the fibre-optic assembly, there is at most one bond, wherein said bond has a binding length. Said links are spaced apart in lengthwise direction by distance (d), and binding length is greater than said distance (l > d).

EFFECT: technical result is the creation of an optical tape having improved flexibility, which would allow twisting or folding optical fibres in the direction of the width of the tape.
