FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical engineering, particularly to the production of multifunctional additives for paint materials by reacting a substituted amine with an ester of acrylic acid. Described are methods of producing a multifunctional additive for paint materials by reacting for three hours of monoethanol amine with 2-ethylhexyl acrylate in molar ratio of 1:1 in the presence of a nickel complex-based catalyst in amount of 0.05 wt. % of monoethanolamine, the processes are carried out at a temperature in range of 20–65 °C. In one of the embodiments of the method implementation, subsequent neutralization of the reaction mixture is carried out by titration with acrylic acid to pH 7.2–7.3, wherein when acrylic acid is added, reactor temperature is maintained within 45–50 °C. Upon completion of titration, obtained product is stirred at temperature of 45–50 °C 1 hour, cooled to 20 °C and held for 12 hours without stirring.
EFFECT: technical result is improved quality of paint materials using an additive which provides wetting properties and increased time of settling in water-pigment systems, high adhesion of film to substrate and resistance of coating film to static action of water.
