SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a vehicle control device and method. Proposed device comprises motor, friction braking mechanism and controller. Motor provides driving/braking force. Friction braking mechanism provides friction braking force. Controller evaluates gradient torque in order to suppress perturbations acting on vehicle; calculates torque control command value of motor based on target and gradient torques and accelerator pedal shift; controls the motor in accordance with the value of the torque control command. Controller determines whether or not the vehicle stops; controls stop for changing braking torque from engine torque to friction moment. During braking torque stop is set equal to value exceeding gradient torque; wherein increases degree of pressure increase of fluid medium supplied into friction braking mechanism, until friction moment reaches value in accordance with increase of time, which expired after said determination or value in accordance with reduction of vehicle speed.

EFFECT: higher braking efficiency due to allowance for road surface gradient.
