SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing glycols, involving contacting a saccharide-containing feedstock with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst composition and a solvent. Solvent contains water and at least 25 wt % of total weight of solvent of one or more alcohols selected from alcohol C1-C6, poly-alcohol C1-C6 and combinations thereof, the catalyst composition contains at least two active catalyst components, said active catalyst components contain, as the first active catalyst component, one or more materials, selected from transition metals of groups 8, 9 or 10 or compounds thereof, with catalytic hydrogenation capabilities and, as second active catalyst component, one or more materials, selected from a list consisting of tungstic acid, molybdic acid, ammonium tungstate, ammonium metatungstate, ammonium paratungstate, tungsten compounds containing at least one element of group I or II, metawolframate compounds containing at least one element of group I or group II, paratungstate compounds containing at least one element of group I or group II, heteropolycompounds of tungsten, heteropolycompounds of molybdenum and combinations thereof, and said first active catalyst component is on a solid support, and said second active catalyst component is in solution.

EFFECT: disclosed method enables to reduce or exclude catalyst deactivation.
