FIELD: nuclear equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear engineering and can be used in making and assembling an ionizing radiation source (IRS), which is part of devices for radiation monitoring of materials and articles quality. Method for assembling an ionizing radiation source includes making a protective housing having a hole from materials with high radiation protection, for example from depleted uranium or an alloy containing tungsten, a protective plug made from the same materials of at least one ampoule containing radioactive material. Ampoule is installed on the protective plug, which, in its turn, is placed into the available hole of the protective housing, wherein the sequence of manufacturing of the above IRS components is determined by the period of their manufacture, starting from the component part with the longest manufacturing period, ending with a component part with the shortest manufacturing period, wherein the ampoule manufacturing is completed simultaneously with the manufacturing of the protective plug completion, the housing manufacturing completion is carried out simultaneously with the ampoule installation in the plug completion. Several ampoules can be placed on the protective plug, at that, the last ampoule is completed simultaneously with the manufacturing of the protective plug, completion of the body is carried out simultaneously with completion of installation of the last ampoule on the plug.
EFFECT: increased service life of IRS, reduced maintenance for replacement of lost radioactivity required IRS for newly fabricated IRS.
