FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to extraction of lithium from lithium-containing material. Method includes the following: mixing lithium-containing material, which includes lithium-ion cell or battery, or lithium-containing mineral deposit in acid solution with pH of about 2.5 or less to form acid solution of lithium, wherein mixing is carried out at a temperature of about 10 °C to about 100 °C, and the acidic lithium solution includes an acid solution with a pH of about 2.5 or less, lithium and at least one or more components: acid solution, soluble organic substances, soluble metals and suspended solids; lithium acidic solution is fed onto membrane of preliminary ultra-filtration treatment to retain bulk of suspended solids and filtering acidic lithium solution penetration, including at least one or several components: acid solution with pH of about 2.5 or less, lithium, soluble organic substances and soluble metals; feeding a filtered lithium acid solution onto a nanofiltration membrane to form a retentate and a permeate; nanofiltration retentate includes soluble organic substances and/or soluble metals, and nanofiltration permeate forms a filtered acid and lithium solution containing an acid solution with pH of about 2.5 or less and lithium; feeding a filtered acid solution with a pH of about 2.5 or less and lithium on a reverse osmosis membrane to form a retentate and a permeate, the reverse osmosis retentate comprising lithium, and the reverse osmosis permeate comprising an acid solution with a pH of about 2.5 or less; and extracting lithium salts from reverse osmosis retentate to form recovered lithium and, optionally, returning the reverse osmosis permeate to the mixing step.

EFFECT: technical result of the invention consists in economical and effective extraction of lithium from lithium-containing material.
