SUBSTANCE: smoking device for generating an aerosol from a liquid aerosol-forming substrate comprises device body (10) comprising a liquid storage portion (16) for a liquid aerosol-forming substrate. Device also comprises a sprayer on surface acoustic waves (SAW sprayer 15), containing spraying section (40), at least one transducer (20) for generating surface acoustic waves for propagation along surface of sprayer (15) on SAW, at least second converter (20), and supply member (30) configured to supply a liquid aerosol-forming substrate from the liquid storage portion (16) to spray portion (40) on SAW sprayer (15). Device additionally comprises control system (14) configured to actuate sprayer (15) on the SAW for spraying the liquid aerosol-forming substrate in the aerosol generation section (40). Also provided is a cartridge for such a smoking device and a method of generating aerosol in a smoking system.
