FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: one of the embodiments of the method includes the following stages: (a) treating ethylbenzene and oxygen in a process production of propylene oxide (PO) or during co-production propylene oxide and styrene monomer (POSM) to obtain an output product; (b) separating ethylbenzene and styrene from the effluent and obtaining organic stream containing at least one oxygen-containing connection; (c) hydrofining an organic stream in the presence of a catalyst hydrofining containing molybdenum to produce hydrotreated product, containing ethylbenzene, wherein hydrofining is carried out at inlet temperature of 150 to 300 °C, and at outlet temperature greater than or equal to 350 °C; and (d) separating ethylbenzene product stream from hydrofining product with obtaining residual product stream.

EFFECT: present invention relates to versions of a method of improving quality of a by-product stream in a process for the production of propylene oxide (PO) or in the process of co-production of propylene oxide and a styrene monomer (POSM).
