FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to non-ferrous metallurgy and can be used in processing bauxites with extraction of main macro components - aluminum and iron. Bauxite is processed by autoclave treatment of pulp in presence of sodium hydroxide and active agent. Active agent used is a mechanical mixture of powders of metals consisting of,%: iron - 49-51, aluminum - 24-26, magnesium - 24-26, in amount of 15-20 wt% of bauxite. Autoclave treatment is performed at ratio L:S 8÷9:1, pressure 15÷16 MPa and temperature 210÷220°. Obtained pulp is cooled to 70÷100° and distilled water is added at temperature of 80÷90°C to obtain L:S 17÷18:1, then mixed, cooled and filtered.
EFFECT: method provides high extraction of aluminum into solution with simultaneous conversion of hematite to magnetite, which enables to obtain red mud with high content of magnetite, having high magnetic properties; wherein the process is carried out in a single step at low temperature and pressure values.
