FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propanediol, involving: mixing an aqueous solution of formaldehyde, having a weight content of 37 %, and isobutyraldehyde, having weight content of 99 %, in weight ratio of (1.05–1.25):1, adjusting the pH value of the reaction system to 6.5–8.0 with an aqueous solution of trimethylamine with a weight content of 30 %, conducting a condensation reaction at a reaction temperature of 60–80 °C and a reaction time of 0.5–2.0 hours to obtain a condensation reaction product, exposing the condensation reaction product to a catalytic hydrogenation reaction to obtain a crude product of 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propanediol and purifying the crude product to obtain finished product 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propanediol, in which purification involves adding a crude product of 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propanediol to a distillation column, carrying out the first distillation at low pressure for 0.5–8.0 hours at temperature 139–155 °C and pressure of 1–50 kPa in a distillation column boiler to remove light components and performing a second distillation to remove heavy components to obtain finished product 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propanediol, wherein during purification, acidity of materials in boiler of distillation column, as well as acidity of materials in stripping section of distillation column is controlled so that output flow from boiler of distillation column has pH value 4.0–7.0.

EFFECT: disclosed is a method of producing 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propanediol.
