FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of breaking at least one emulsion and separation of light and heavy phases. Method of separating at least one liquid/liquid emulsion (L/L), with water content of up to 70 wt. %, is carried out by applying at least one DC field (DC) and at least one alternating current (AC) field in the following sequence: DC-field prior to HF/AC-field action along the treated emulsion flow direction. At that at least one alternating current (AC) field is applied with electric field intensity from 2,000 to 100,000 V/m and frequency (HF) from 10,000 to 50,000 Hz. Method is carried out in an apparatus comprising at least one vessel with at least one module, at least one first electrode which is arranged along the wall of at least one vessel module, and at least one second electrode, which is located inside at least one module of vessel.
EFFECT: technical result is providing degree of demulsification of more than 95 % in only one device (module) in less than 5 minutes.
