FIELD: communication.

SUBSTANCE: method of switching reception mode includes: configuration (S201) of a base station switching message for a reception mode in a narrow frequency band, comprising a time for indicating terminal device to enter reception mode in narrow frequency band and position of narrow frequency band in frequency band when entering reception mode in narrow frequency band; sending (S202) a message on switching terminal device to narrow frequency band specified in switching message, to receive information, wherein width of narrow frequency band is less than width of system pass band; sending to the terminal device information on time of stopping detection of a signal in a narrow frequency band and restarting signal detection. Information on time for stopping detection of a signal in a narrow frequency band is sent to a terminal device to indicate end device to enter idle state when signal detection in narrow frequency band is stopped.

EFFECT: technical result of the invention consists in the possibility to receive the signal in the narrow frequency band by the terminal device, which contributes to reduction of power consumption of the terminal device.
