FIELD: processing of diamond materials.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the processing of diamond materials for their use in high-tech fields of science and technology. A method for processing a diamond material includes contacting a diamond material with a metal plate, heating the contact surfaces in an inert atmosphere and holding, while an iron-carbon alloy containing 0.5-1 wt% carbon is taken as the material of the metal plate, heating the contact surfaces carried out until a temperature of 900-1100°С is reached, and the contact of the diamond material with the metal plate is carried out under a load of 15.0-40.0 kPa. An iron-carbon alloy containing nickel or cobalt can be used as the material of the metal plate. The use of an iron-carbon metal alloy with a carbon content of 0.5-1 wt% for processing a diamond material reduces the processing time of a diamond material by increasing the processing speed and diffusion of diamond carbon into a metal plate to a greater depth, which makes it possible to remove a large volume in a short time diamond material.
EFFECT: diamond material has required quality of the processed surface in the absence of defects in the form of cracks and chips.
