FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of graphite materials, specifically to methods of producing a flexible web of increased width from thermally expanded graphite (TEG), and can be used as a sealed separation layer in the lining of electrolytic baths in the production of aluminium. Method includes preliminary formation of TEG tapes with density from 0.5 to 1.2 g/cm3, laying of tapes with overlap with overlapping of edges and further treatment of overlap area by pressure. Tapes are laid to form overlapping in the form of overlap with width of 5–100 mm. Treatment of the overlapping area is performed with pressure of 20–200 MPa to form a seam with increased by 30–100 % density of graphite TEG. Final density of joint is 0.8 to 1.8 g/cm3.

EFFECT: creation of solid, flexible and strong graphite web of increased width with provision of homogeneity of properties of entire graphite cloth at the level of properties of initial graphite.
