SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to control of grain parameters and can be used at grain storage and handling enterprises. The method for determining grain hardness consists in the fact that at first a uniform directional luminous flux is formed in the visible region of the spectrum, in which a grain sample is placed in one layer. Then each grain is analyzed according to the criterion of the amount of light diffusely transmitted through it. During the analysis, a translucent grain sample is taken using a digital camera. After that, the brightness of the digital image of each grain is corrected using the linear dependence of the local stray illumination on the fraction of the area free of grain in the form of an ellipse around the grain and the linear dependence of the total stray illumination on the fraction of the area free of grain in the entire sample. Then, using the average value of the corrected luminance of the red channel for each grain, the grain image is classified by assigning the grain to glassy, ​​partially vitreous or mealy using adjustable thresholds between mealy and partially vitreous, partially vitreous and vitreous grains.

EFFECT: use of the invention will reduce the error in determining grain hardness.
