FIELD: agriculture.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to agriculture and can be used for separation of fraction with high content of vitreous grains from commercial grains. Batch of grain is passed through a photoseparator equipped with an optical system and enabling analysis of reflection spectra of separate seeds. Each granule is irradiated with electromagnetic radiation from ultraviolet, visible or near infrared range, electrical signals corresponding to intensity of radiation reflected by grains are recorded, intensity of radiation reflected by each separate grain is measured. Value of the optical characteristic corresponding to the grain vitreous index is determined from the measured intensity values for each grain. Grain is divided into mealy and glassy depending on deviation of optical characteristic of each grains from a predetermined reference value for a batch of grains.
EFFECT: disclosed method provides fast and efficient separation of grain into two fractions by level of vitreousity.
