SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of agriculture, in particular to plant growing and plant breeding. The method includes measuring the height of plants in the flowering phase, accounting for the yield of green mass in the phase of milky-wax ripeness and grain. Before laying the experiment, the plot is divided into two backgrounds: without fertilization and with pre-sowing nitrogen fertilization. The test samples of corn are sown on two backgrounds. During the growing season, the reaction indicator is calculated based on the quantitative characteristics of corn, including grain in the phase of full ripeness, and the indicator of the reaction of corn to nitrogen fertilization is calculated by the formula:

where Ra is an indicator of the reaction to nitrogen fertilization; ph1, ph2 - the height of corn plants, respectively, on the control and on the fertilized background; gm1, gm2 - the yield of green mass in the milky-wax ripeness of corn, respectively, on the control and on the fertilized background; gy1, gy2 - grain yield of corn samples, respectively, on the control and on the fertilized background; and the higher the Ra index, the higher the responsiveness of the corn sample.

EFFECT: invention improves efficiency and accuracy of assessing the responsiveness of hybrids, self-pollinated lines or corn source material for nitrogen fertilization, as well as simplifies technology of sampling and their evaluation.
