SUBSTANCE: sampling device for taking a representative sample of milk in a given quantitative range from a transport pipeline through which milk is transported at intervals of transportation of unknown duration comprises a pump, a pump controller and a sample container connector connected to the pump, and the controller is configured to control the pulse operation of the pump in the first mode of operation in the transportation interval based on a predetermined quantitative range and a measured quantity showing the flow rate of milk transported through the conveying pipeline and / or a measured variable showing the flow rate of that milk and / or a predetermined variable characterizing the total amount of milk to be transported through the transport pipeline during the transport interval; the pump transports a discrete subset of samples along the first transport direction of the pump during pulse operation in each pulse sampling interval, the specified quantitative range is greater than or equal to the total number corresponding to the total number of discrete subsets of samples in the transportation interval, and the controller is additionally configured to reduce the pump transport speed and increase the frequency of sampling pulse intervals as milk consumption decreases transported in a transport pipeline.

EFFECT: ability to take representative samples when the transportation interval is not fully known at the time of the start of sampling.
