SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry and pharmacy. Disclosed is a method of treating, preventing and/or alleviating a neuromuscular disorder; and/or reversing; and/or alleviating neuromuscular blockade after surgery. According to the method, a therapeutically effective amount of a composition containing a compound of formula (II) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is administered to an individual in need thereof where m is 0.1 or 2 ; Y is selected from the group consisting of O, NH, CH₂ — O, S, and SO₂; X₁, X₂ and X₃ are independently selected from CH; R₁ is H; R₂ is selected from the group consisting of H, C_1-4 alkyl, C_3-4 cycloalkyl wherein C_1-4 alkyl and C_3-4 cycloalkyl may be substituted with up to two substituents selected from the group consisting of -NR₉-CO-R₁₀, -N (R₁₀)-SO₂-R₁₂, -R₁₃-O-R₁₁, -NR₉R₁₀, -O-R₁₁ and a halogen; R₄ is selected from the group consisting of —H, a halogen, cyano, —CHO, and C₁-alkyl; R₉, R₁₀, R₁₁ are independently selected from H and C_{1-2 -}alkyl; R₁₂ is C₁-alkyl; and R₁₃ is C₁-alkyl. The composition also includes a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Also disclosed are uses for the manufacture of an agent for treating, alleviating and/or restoring neuromuscular transmission, a method for restoring neuromuscular transmission, and specific compounds.

EFFECT: inhibition of the ClC-1 ion channel in the treatment, prevention and/or alleviation of neuromuscular disorders by administering a composition containing a compound of formula (II) to an individual in need thereof.
