FIELD: hydrocarbon desalting.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for optimizing the desalting process by increasing the level of contact between the flow of hydrocarbons and the washing water, in which the initial crude hydrocarbons enter the desalter through a line under a certain set of conditions, and the initial hydrocarbons contain hydrocarbon fluid, water and salt. The method provides for obtaining the spectra of the initial crude hydrocarbons under a variety of conditions in the line that make it possible to measure the degree of mixing of the hydrocarbon fluid and water during the desalination process; comparing the spectra; based on the comparison of the spectra changing or maintaining the set of conditions under which the initial crude hydrocarbons enter the desalter; while the spectra are obtained using neutron backscattering.
