SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to an installation and a method for heat treatment of a thick steel sheet. The apparatus comprises a heating furnace configured to heat the thick steel sheet from 100°C or less to a temperature range for producing austenite, and a quenching device configured to quench the thick steel sheet heated in the heating furnace. Moreover, the quenching device comprises a slow cooling zone configured to slowly cool the thick steel sheet exiting the heating furnace, and a rapid cooling zone configured to rapidly cool the thick steel sheet that has passed through the slow cooling zone. At the same time, at least one pair of upper and lower slow cooling nozzles is located in the slow cooling zone in the direction of transporting the thick steel sheet, and at least one pair of upper and lower cooling nozzles for rapid cooling is located in the fast cooling zone in the direction of transporting the thick steel sheet. A device for removing water is located between the upper slow cooling nozzle in the slow cooling zone and the upper fast cooling nozzle in the fast cooling zone, the distance from the heating furnace to the slow cooling zone being within 4 m, and the specific consumption of cooling water in the slow cooling zone is 30 - 200 l / (min · m2) and the specific consumption of cooling water in the rapid cooling zone is 1000 - 4000 l / (min · m2).

EFFECT: invention is aimed at obtaining a thick steel sheet having high strength and a low ratio of the yield strength to the tensile strength with minor change in the ratio of the yield strength to the tensile strength in the same sheet.
