SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer technology. A method of network unit definition using rules of inventory wherein network traffic is intercepted by a network filter, wherein the network traffic is comprised of transport, network, channel network protocol packages; using a method of rule checking compliance with at least one of the inventory rules is tested within the intercepted network traffic, particularly, compliance with inventory rules is tested for transport, network, channel network protocol packages, wherein each inventory rule includes requirements compliance wherewith signifies the presence of a network unit with specific parameters, moreover, each inventory corresponds with a weight parameter determining the priority of said rule; using the method of network unit definition at least one unit of the network and parameters thereof in accordance with at least one executed inventory rule and with the weight parameter of said rule.

EFFECT: improved accuracy of setting definition of network units by using rules of inventory providing for weight parameters.
