FIELD: chemical industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for operating a system with a protective layer in a reaction system for the production of ethylene carbonate and/or ethylene glycol. The reaction system contains a reactor for the catalytic production of ethylene oxide, a system with a protective layer and an ethylene oxide absorber. The gaseous composition from the reactor is fed to an ethylene oxide absorber, in which it contacts the lean absorbent in the presence of catalysts promoting carboxylation and hydrolysis, and the gases not absorbed in the ethylene oxide absorber are taken from the upper part of the ethylene oxide absorber and returned to the reactor. The method includes supply of a gaseous raw material, which is a recirculating gas from an ethylene oxide absorber, supply of the raw material through two or more containers with a protective layer arranged in series and containing a layer of material capable of removing impurities from the raw material, bringing the raw material into contact with the material of the protective layer of the containers, with the removal of impurities from the raw material, withdrawal of the purified raw material, excluding the first container from the raw material flow after a certain time and allowing the raw material flow to continue through the second and subsequent containers, renewing the cover material in the first container and restoring the raw material flow through the first container so that it is the last container in the sequence.
EFFECT: invention provides a high level of removal of impurities, as well as reliability, efficiency and economy.
