SUBSTANCE: invention relates to biology and agriculture and can be used to measure water consumption by a plant, study its water regime, functional state, which, in turn, can be used to control irrigation in accordance with the amount of water consumption by an intact plant. The device includes a stem fragment heater, meters of the external components of the heat consumption for the flow of the liquid mass, the thermal conductivity of the stem up and down, and convection into the environment, followed by the calculation of the amount of the liquid consumption; plant xylem flow rate values, which together change the amount of post-heating in accordance with the current xylem flow rate.
EFFECT: invention is aimed at reducing the distortion of the natural processes of plant life, as well as increasing accuracy of measuring the flow rate of the xylem flow of the plant.
