METHOD FOR CREATING EXPERIMENTAL MODEL OF FUNGAL KERATITIS AMONG RABBITS Russian patent published in 2021 - IPC G09B23/28

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to the section of ophthalmology, it is intended for simulating fungal keratitis among experimental animals for the subsequent study of the pathological process and the development of methods for its treatment. A method for creating an experimental model of fungal keratitis among rabbits is that under local anesthesia, a sterile disk of a hemostatic sponge soaked in 5% alcohol solution of formalin is applied to the cornea; a soft contact lens is put on for 24 hours; the next day the soft contact lens and the disk of a hemostatic sponge are removed. A 0.1% dexamethasone solution is instilled on the surface of the cornea for 3 days 4 times a day. On the 3rd day, under local infiltration anesthesia, scarification of the corneal epithelium with a size of 10×10 mm is performed. A 99% dimexide concentrate is instilled on the cornea; then, a copious irrigation of the conjunctival surface is performed with 10⁶ CFU/ml of a clinical suspension of fungal isolates of Fusarium spp., including fragments of mycelium. 0.2-0.3 ml of the same suspension is applied to the inner surface of the soft contact lens, a soft contact lens is put on the cornea. In the following days, every other day for 3-4 approaches, additional irrigation of the cornea is performed, pushing the soft contact lens away, with 99% dimexide concentrate and a fresh clinical suspension of fungal isolates Fusarium spp. 10⁶ CFU/ml.

EFFECT: invention provides low traumatization of the experimental animal and reliable adhesion of fungal isolates on the surface of the cornea.
